FMI has successfully completed the certification of MIL-PRF-55310 /41, which is the latest and the smallest of all Hi-Rel hybrid crystal oscillators that DLA has qualified.
The approval represents FMI’s most recent achievement and is thefirst DLA-certified miniature 5x7mm form-factor oscillator design listed under MIL-PRF-55310, providing low voltage CMOS oscillators in the frequency range of 500 kHz to 125 MHz.
Not only has FMI achieved the certification, they helped DLA to first create the specifications according to commonly required performance standards but now in a much smaller 5x7mm (gullwing style) package.
Note that /41 denoted 3.3V which caters to the newer designs (as opposed to 5V).
Also note that gullwing style leads offer the following important characteristics:
1- It offers a full view of the soldering contact between the PCB and the leads. This is superior to any larger package with J-leads where the solder contact area is hidden under the package of the product
2- The gullwing configuration offers a more thermally compliant lead positioning according to our NASA customers that have selected this type of lead forming compared to any other.
3- The /41 package size is indeed the smallest among the QPL offering and is significantly lighter which makes it more suitable for any Hi-Rel system application requiring performance of the part under shock and vibration
4- This 5×7 gullwing package’s land pattern accepts both 9×14 and 9×7 packages, examples:

M55310/34 9×7 CMOS 3.3V 500 KHz to 150 MHz Thickness 1

It would be useful for our customers to know about the following attributes and properties of the /41 that FMI has qualified:
1- The QPL certification is a reflection of the availability of this type of crystal oscillator over the entire range of 500KHz to 125 MHz
2- From the standard product perspective, our M88 is the closest to the military version of the QPL design (https://www.frequencymanagement.com/web_pdfs/cat_pdfs_space%20and%20military/FMI_M88_Issue%205_07272016.pdf)
3- There are a range of other electrical parameters that are not be included in the QPL /41 specifications but we offer them-
a. Phase noise (at a specific output frequency): Noise floor of -159dBc/Hz for 125MHz output
b. RMS jitter for 12 KHz to 20 MHz offset : 100 fsec
4- Waveform parameters other than what is listed on the /41 QPL spec including alternative rise/fall times and duty cycles
5- Output frequency outside the range specified on QPL /41: we offer 250KHz to 200MHz

Kratos Oscillator Products
Kratos General Microwave offers a line of DTOs covering the 2-18 GHz frequency range based upon its catalog line of broadband VCOs. The DTO provides the desired output frequency in response to a digital control signal. A block diagram of the DTO is shown in Fig. 1. By appropriate design of the electronic circuitry, settling times of less than 300 nanoseconds are achieved. To obtain a frequency accuracy of the order of ±1%, including the effects of temperature, a proportionally controlled heater is required for the VCO and the electronic circuitry is temperature-compensated. A latch mode is provided as a standard feature.
Kratos General Microwave has developed a new product line of Multi-Band Frequency Locked Oscillators (FLO). This product line is an enhancement to our free running Digitally Tuned Oscillator (DTO) products. This FLO combines the high speed of DTO with the high accuracy and long-term stability of a frequency locked source. The key specification feature of the FLO is a timing speed of less than 1μsec to settle within 1 MHz of the desired frequency.
SIMULATOR AND TEST SYSTEMS APPLICATIONS
The FLO was specifically designed for test systems and simulator applications. It is a low cost replacement for high cost direct synthesizers, in applications that the frequency setting time of 1 μsec is meeting the system requirements.
Kratos General Microwave has developed a family of high-speed, miniaturized VCOs covering the 2-6 GHz frequency range. These VCOs have been utilized in airborne EW applications, as well as in ground-based simulators.

The Spectratime mRO-50 is a breakthrough low SWaP-C Miniaturized Rubidium Oscillator designed to meet the latest commercial, military and aerospace requirements where time stability and power consumption are critical.
It provides a one day holdover below 1µs and a retrace below 1 x 10-10 in a form factor (50.8 x 50.8 x 19.5mm) that takes up only 51 cc of volume (about one-third of the volume compared to standard rubidiums) and consumes only 0.45W of power, which is about ten times less than existing solutions with similar capabilities.
With these competitive advantages, the new Spectratime mRO-50 Miniaturized Rubidium Oscillator provides accurate frequency and precise time synchronization to mobile applications, such as military radio-pack systems in GNSS denied environments.
